In December 2010, NMS Contractors secured the Ulan West Boxcut Excavation contract, located at Ulan Coal Mine in the central west region of NSW. This major project is a key component in Xstrata Coal’s development of the $1.2 Billion Ulan West underground mine, within the existing Ulan Mine Complex. The scope of work for NMS includes all drill and blast, overburden removal and coal extraction required to develop a 17 million cubic metre boxcut void in order to facilitate access for development of the new underground mine. In addition the contract involves substantial bulk earthworks associated with development of new mine infrastructure including the administration area, conveyor formations, hub stockpile and final rehabilitation landform. NMS was appointed Coal Mine Operator for the project in January 2011, with work programmed for completion in early 2012.
